Social Empowerment

Objectives:

  • To change a rural mindset that limits women's active participation in decision-making in their families and communities by raising awareness of the structural inequalities in Khmer society and educating them about their rights.

  • To improve and strengthen gender equity in the greater communities by developing and strengthening life skills programs (literacy and character building through leadership) and education services for girls.

  • To promote gender awareness and improve gender equity in the greater communities by educating adolescent boys and men on laws pertaining to gender-based violence and on making informed choices about reproductive and sexual health.

PRD will undertake an aggressive awareness education to educate women on their rights, discrimination, ending violence again women and girls, counseling services, and laws pertaining to gender-based violence. We will engage different actors in Samlout and Pailin, from community leaders, private sectors to Government Departments and Ministries to become actively involved in the activities.

Economic Empowerment

Objectives:

  • To enable women to competitively compete in the labour market and have access to improved livelihood opportunities.

  • To strengthen their independence within their families and have a stronger voice/role in the community.

  • To address barriers to employment for disabled women and promote workplace opportunities for them.

The project aims to offer vocational and life skills to reflect real business needs for the region. The integration of life skills and entrepreneurship are critical components of the project. It prepares women to understand the business environment and gives them the confidence they need to seek employment or to start a new business. We will focus on literacy, employee confidence and readiness, and challenge women to be problem solvers by preparing and testing real business models. We will draw on successful experiences from other programs that focus on women’s employment and empowerment.
